Foundation/Gap year in New Zealand

If you want to take time between high school and university, this “gap” can serve any of these purposes:

  • Prepare for entry into your chosen university. For example, if you want to be an Actor, you will take an Arts stream, if you want to study Economy, you will take a Business Commerce stream, and so on. There are 7 streams available – Arts, Applied Science, Business Commerce, Design, Health Sciences, Life Science and Physical Education.
  • English for university.
  • No commitment; do you like Engineering or Business or Design or Journalism? Find out!

High Schools in New Zealand

Choosing the best education is one of the most important decisions we, as parents, will make for our children. It is perfectly viable to study in another country for a term, an academic year or even more. We will be happy to help you make the best selection.

The National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) is the senior secondary school national qualification implemented in all New Zealand schools in 2002. The NCEA was launched in 1998 under the auspices of a project called ‘Achievement 2001’. International students will prepare for the NCEA if they wish to go to university or are going to spend their final three years of high school in New Zealand.

Accreditation structures are in place for recognition of senior secondary education. The International Baccalaureate is offered by certain schools.

Duration.

  • 10 weeks, semester or academic year.
  • Two years or more, particularly if your objective is graduation from high school and access to university.

Qualifications

  • Academic year.
  • High School graduation.
  • International Baccalaureate.

Tuition fees per year.

  • Public school between NZ $10,700 and NZ $16,000/year.
  • Private school approximately NZ $31,000/year.

  • Residence or family. We will need to organize guardianship; this is organized jointly with the international office at the high school in question. We coordinate it all for you and we are in touch with you and with your school throughout your stay.

English and Test Prep in New Zealand


There are so many beautiful locations that you may have difficulty choosing your school. If graduate or undergraduate studies are your objective, a university-based school is probably the right choice. If you want to explore New Zealand while you study, then your options are broader. We can offer you city, country, beach, or pure escape locations.

Duration.

  • 2 to 52 weeks. How much time do you have? What do you want to attain?

Qualifications.

  • IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge First, Advanced and Proficiency.
  • English for professionals (Medicine, Law, Business, Engineering, Barista).
  • General English Certificate.
  • University Preparation Semester or Year.

Tuition fees.

  • Weekly fees between NZ $265 and NZ$ 395 depending on location and number of weeks.
  • Term (12 weeks) approximately NZ $5,300.

Can I work while I study?

  • Yes, under certain conditions: You must have a student visa and be enrolled in a full-time course of 6 months or more, and you must have a level 5.0 IELTS or equivalent such as First Certificate.
