Academic English / English for Academic Purposes

  • Certificate of Attainment in Academic English, University of Waikato. Classes focus on skills needed for successful university study such as academic writing, listening, note-taking, reading and oral presentation skills. 23 hours of tuition each week for 10 weeks. There are four intakes each year.
  • Direct Entry English Pathway (DEEP), Massey University, Albany, Manawatu, Wellington. This course will help you meet the language and literacy requirements for undergraduate or postgraduate study. Programmes last 16 weeks; 4 start dates each year.
  • Certificate of Attendance General English, Massey University, Albany, Manawatu and Wellington.Your progress will be assessed regularly, and you will enrol in the university paper General English/English for Academic Purposes for the appropriate number of weeks. Upon successful completion of your individual course of study, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance in General English which details the length of your study period and the level reached. 4-12 weeks. 10 start dates each year.
  • Studying English as a Second Language, Victoria University Wellington. Study at a top New Zealand University. This is an academic programme for students with an intermediate level or above. 12 weeks, fixed start dates. Prepare for study at university; use the Language Learning Centre at the University library. Regular activities include media studies where you practise listening to lectures, participating in group discussions, taking notes etc.
  • English for Academic Purposes, Otago University, Dunedin. A carefully structured programme of Academic English, Research and Learning Skills, and IELTS preparation. Courses are run twice a year for entry to the University undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
