History

  • Master of Arts in History, Canterbury Christ Church University. It covers British History from 900-1250 until the 20th Century, the Northern Ireland Conflict, or the Anglo-American relations since the 1930s.
  • MA History, University of Essex. The programme aims to stimulate the historical imagination of students, provide them with an advanced understanding of the methods and techniques of the historical discipline, to develop a critical awareness of selected sub-fields of History with respect to relevant social, cultural, political and economic contexts, encourage students to develop critical, analytical and research skills, problem solving skills, and transferable skills.

  • Master in British Sign Language / English Interpreting & Translation, University of Central Lancashire. Aimed to produce practitioners with high order interpreting skills who will be able to interpret between Deaf people whose first or preferred language is BSL and the many hearing people with whom they interact.
  • Master in Interpreting and Translation, University of Central Lancashire. A strong command of English is required, since each of the foreign languages is combined with English. Practical aspects are emphasised throughout, including technical business interpreting (both ways).
  • Master of Applied Linguistics (Research), Canterbury Christ Church University. Validated by the University of Kent, there is a major emphasis on critical qualitative research into social and cultural issues in language education; but there is also interest in grammar, discourse and pragmatics
  • MA in Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling, University of Essex. 1 year. The first course to offer written translation, oral interpreting and film and video subtitling in a single course. A strong command of English is required.
  • MA Translation and Literature, University of Essex. This course will introduce you to the techniques of professional literary translation and will develop your own personal translation skills allowing you to translate literary works accurately from one language to another.

Offers opportunities to those who wish to pursue an eclectic generalist programme of modules and to those who seek specialisation in particular areas of literary study. Four pathways: MA in English Literature, MA in English (Children's Literature), MA in English (Literatures Victorian and Modern), MA in English (Literatures Medieval and Early Modern).
  • Master in Modern and Contemporary Literature, University of Central Lancashire. Introduction to key authors, texts, and critical and theoretical debates that shape our conception of literature from the early Twentieth Century to the present.
  • Master in Rhetoric, University of Central Lancashire. It provides you with the opportunity to study the rich history and theory of the practice of speaking, or more broadly, communicating and to master that practice yourself.

  • Master in Creative Writing: Prose Fiction (2 years, part time), Canterbury Christ Church University. Aimed to nurture the talents of creative writers through a combination of workshops, seminars and tutorial supervision, and to encourage new writing within a supportive but critical community.
  • MA Creative Writing, University of Essex. This course builds on a strong tradition of creative writing at Essex, offering a unique approach to the practice of writing, with an emphasis on innovation and experiment. A wide variety of courses concentrate on deepening students’ knowledge of literary tradition and different modes and genres in order to develop practical skills of expression and invention.

  • MSc (Hons.) Play Writing, University of Central Lancashire. Students submit their own play with a supportive portfolio of reflective writing and are encouraged to challenge themselves and their assumptions.
  • MA/PGDip/PGCert Performance, University of Central Lancashire. This course engages with performance as an interdisciplinary and connected practice embracing contemporary theatre, live art, and installation, and digital performance, site-specific and interventional artwork.
  • Master in Dance & Somatic Well-Being, University of Central Lancashire. Explores the creative skills required to use movement with sensitivity, imagination and individuality . study individual and group improvisation, kinaesthetic awareness and applied somatics philosophy to dance and movement studies.
  • MA/MFA in Acting (International), East 15 Acting School, University of Essex. Uniquely designed for international students this course offers the usual array of acting skills, including voice, movement and singing, and approaches to rehearsal and public performances.
  • MA/MFA in Theatre Directing, East 15 Acting School, University of Essex. Open to students from all over the world, it is one of the most established directing courses in the U.K, with a mixture of workshops, projects and dialogues with visiting directors.

  • MA Philosophy and Psychoanalysis, University of Essex.
